YouTube用户 CRYP77 在一张来自1979年的磁带上找到了这首歌。同时，CRYP77还上传了另一首歌手未知的歌曲，可能与这首歌录制在同一张磁带上。2011年3月8日，CRYP77 将该歌曲上传到YouTube上¹。该歌曲的片段长达3分24秒。之后，CRYP77 还将这首歌发布到德国问答网站wer-weiss-was.de上，但是该帖子现已失效。

2025年1月10日，CRYP77上传的另一首歌手未知的歌曲被YouTube用户marktrail确定为Tony Craig的《Can You Feel It》。在marktrail的YouTube评论中，有人跟帖猜测《My Wandering Star》是Danny McCree的《A Million Miles Away》²。CRYP77买到《A Million Miles Away》的唱片后，确定该歌曲与《My Wandering Star》并不是同一首歌³。

可能的创作者

在原始youtube视频下方有人称这首歌可能为一个名叫Klaatu⁴的乐队所创作的一首Demo歌曲。目前本维基用户 Txt Text和 dead rat正在尝试联系乐队成员。

2025年1月左右（具体时间不明），dead rat在QQ群“失传媒体中文维基及爱好者群；失传媒体考古队”内发送消息称确认作者不是Klaatu乐队。

后来，dead rat指出歌手声线与John Lennon 相似，但这首歌被确认来源后，这个说法被推翻。

发现

2025年3月31日，YouTube用户TheLivingM3m3在CRYP77发布的原视频的评论区询问这首歌磁带的更多信息，CRYP77随即表示磁带可能是1978年录制的在德国播出的BBC广播节目的内容，磁带同时收录有前文所述的Tony Craig的《Can You Feel It》、Oliver Onions的《Flying Through The Air》和Cliff Richard的《Take Me High》等歌曲，后两首都发售于1973年。4月5日，这首歌被TheLivingM3m3确定是A & A North的《My Star》。
